Workers who are covered by this proclamation are called “high risk employees,” and the term means anyone defined by the Centers for Disease Control as being more likely to get severely ill from COVID-19, as outlined on the CDC’s website listing risk factors and medical conditions that current science says may make someone more likely be hospitalized, need intensive care, require a ventilator to breathe, or even die if they were to contract COVID-19. There is no set date for the expiration of these protections. This proclamation is in effect through the end of Washington’s state of emergency, or until otherwise amended or rescinded. Governor Inslee has issued and extended a proclamation protecting working people who may be at higher risk for serious illness or complications from COVID-19.
